Since the start of 2019, there has been a tremendous shift in the foldable market. Despite much skepticism before the pandemic, Samsung has essentially perfected the foldable phone in recent years, and the next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is widely anticipated to be even more impressive than the company’s current flagship foldable lineup.
The Galaxy Fold from 2019 wasn’t actually the first folding smartphone. Definitions could be argued over, but the Royole FlexPai was available on the market first. It seemed more like a prototype than a finished product; therefore, Samsung can confidently claim to have created the first practical foldable device.
In terms of this year’s Z fold, a MySmartPrice leak claims that, while the phone will be launched in South Korea in late July, it will have a separate global launch event on August 11. We’re not sure, though, because two staggered incidents like that would be rare for Samsung. The phone might cost as little as $1,799.
If that’s the case, it’s the same price as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which costs £1,649 or AU$2,499 elsewhere. However, another Galaxy Z Fold 5 price leak suggests that it will be around $110 more expensive than last year. This could imply a starting price of around $1,899, £1,749, or AU$2,650.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 5 DESIGN AND DISPLAY
According to reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will come in five different colors: beige, black, light blue, dark blue, and platinum. A number of leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 suggest that it will appear quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, its predecessor. A new hinge is rumored to be in the works for the phone, allowing both halves to lie fully flat against one another.
Another rumor confirms the new hinge design and claims the phone will also be water-resistant like the present model. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is rumored to sport a 6.2-inch cover screen, the same size as the previous model.
The same source may have also implied that the design would remain unchanged, but their words leave room for interpretation. One report claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s main display will be 7.6 inches in size, brighter than its predecessor’s display, with a 120Hz refresh rate and improved durability.
However, new reports have indicated that the Z Fold 5’s display will match the 1,200-nit maximum brightness of the Z Fold 4. According to sources, it would also have an IPX8 classification (despite earlier claims suggesting it would have a complete IP68 rating).
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FOLD 5 SPECS AND FEATURES
A Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 is a long time coming. Instead, the new Galaxy Fold is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as the S23. It’s an altered version of Qualcomm’s newest flagship smartphone, with improvements including better camera quality.
In reality, the improved (compared to last year’s) digital signal processing is largely responsible for the improved imaging here. However, it does provide some welcome improvements, such as enhanced performance in dim lighting and more natural-looking skin tones.
MyFixGuide has spotted certification listings suggesting that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 would once again have a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging. The S Pen is 41% thinner than before, and there will be a case with a built-in dock since the phone itself isn’t quite up to a stylus slot just yet.
